Frequently Asked Questions

I appreciate your interest in my work! Currently, I don’t take on personal custom paintings. However, I do occasionally accept limited commercial commissions for businesses or special projects. If you’re interested in a commercial collaboration, feel free to reach out for more details.

Every item offered by Final Switchback is hand painted or designed by Katie. The paintings are acrylic and ink layered over digitally altered topographic maps. Katie has put a lot of thought and care into where each reproduction or product is made, choosing local and USA made when possible. Her background working in a custom frame shop also heavily influenced these choices, prioritizing quality along with ease for the customer. Choosing which image should be the hard part, getting it on your walls should be simple.

Matted Prints are high quality, archival, luster photo inkjet reproduction. This allows for the super fine details of the maps and hand ink lines to be ultra crisp on the smaller sized prints. Printed by a family run business in New York Katie has trusted for nearly 20 years. The prints are hand matted in our Portland studio and finished with Katie’s signature in the bottom right corner. Mats are produced and cut in the US.

Giclee Prints are also printed in NY on high quality, thick Somerset Velvet paper. This paper is chosen for it’s fine art look and feel and the thickness is perfect for preserving quality over time at the larger size no matter what framing method you choose.

Greeting Cards are printed less than a mile from our studio in Portland, OR by a small business that hasn’t let Katie and the business’s growth down since Final Switchback’s first, very small greeting card production in 2017.

Canvas Prints are high quality, archival and durable, printed by a friendly shop in Portland, OR.

Bandanas are hand cut, sewn and printed in Nashville, TN. Chosen for their soft cotton, superior quality and rare to find discharge printing process that allows for the design to show on both sides without any stiff plastic-based ink. Discharge printing uses water-based inks to bleach the manufacturer's dye out of the fabric and replaces it with dye, rather than ink that sits on top of the fabric like traditional screen printing.

Hats, Headbands and Zip Pouches are environmentally sustainably and ethically made in Nepal in partnership with a World Fair Trade Organization Guaranteed Member with a mission to create jobs that empower marginalized people to fresh starts and fulfilled lives.

Enamel Mugs are made by the premier enamelware company in Poland. Superior in craft and function, these handmade mugs are the real deal, fireproof steel and enamel coated mugs made to last generations.

Stickers are made in the US, chosen for being high quality, durable and weather resistant.

Enamel Pins are made with the help of a US based company that reproduces impeccable small details with endless color selection.

You’ve found the perfect piece of art—now it’s time to get it on your walls! I spent over five years working in a frame shop as I built my path as an artist, so I know firsthand that framing can be costly, tricky, and sometimes overwhelming. Find my recommendations here
